James Naughton

An Obsession with Light.....

The opening day of this exhibition see's James breaking from the mould and offering the first 200 couples in the gallery receiving a signed limited edition print of his work absolutely free.

The gallery opens at 11am on Saturday 6th October for this unmissable landscape exhibition.

Landscapes that are evocative, breathtaking, spiritual and a force of nature; that bear the ravages of time and the elements.

James Naughton captures the Yorkshire landscape in a contemporary style that has a traditional feeling.

This northern lad who hails from Bolton captures the dales and moors in all its majestic glory - the storms, the grey and misty days, the warm summer evenings and the autumn blaze.  These stunning vistas are imposing and intimidating and yet express a sense of wonder through the epic forces of nature.

Working from an abstract perspective, having no firm idea of how the work will start or turn out and believes that the paintings “come out of the paint itself”.  James creates landscapes that have a distinct style and imagery reminiscent of Turner, someone who this shy and reserved artist admits to being one of the painters he admires because of the playfulness and economy of his painting that allows figurative elements to act as an anchor and give reference to his abstract markings.   James doesn’t feel comfortable with attaching definitive meanings to his paintings, preferring the work to speak for itself and allowing the individual viewer their own personal dialogue with the image.
