A collection of work by
fourteen Vietnamese artists.
Something different again from The Gascoigne gallery ! The gallery that searches out talent from around the globe is proud and privileged to play host to fourteen extremely talented Vietnamese artists. Special guest speaker Raquelle Azran , a Vietnamese art curator and specialist, will hold a talk on Vietnamese art at 12.15 on the opening day. Something not to be missed!
Vietnamese art is defined by its brimming vitality, lush colours and directness, as well as by its poetic, dreamlike meditativeness. Never confrontational or aggressive, Vietnamese art is a lyrical, serene and intriguing moment of beauty in time.
Each of the fourteen exhibiting Vietnamese artists have their own style and interpretation, blending Eastern and Western sensitivities. Stylistic elements of Impressionism, Expressionism, figurative art, Cubism and Fauvism intermingle with traditional Vietnamese themes of emotional experience and spiritual values. The juxtaposition of handmade rice paper and traditional lacquer painting with contemporary artistic techniques bridges the temporal worlds of past, present and future.
Trinh Tuan utilizes luminous gold tones of traditional lacquer work, whilst Duong Viet Nam's silk paintings gently weave their spell of the East. The geometric designs of Phan Hai Bang and Pham Thang Long contrast with the free flowing collages of Nguyen Dieu Thuy.
