The Gascoigne gallery is stripping off in March and April!
Exposing the naked form of life, this “not to be missed” exhibition is uncovering original paintings from seven British artists.
From the traditional to the contemporary and abstract, nudes have always been a mainstay of art. They evoke the most basic of feelings and reactions and yet can instil emotion, sensitivity and spirituality.
From Botticelli to Modiglianni, Renoir to Matisse, nudes have permeated the very heart of the art world. They are erotic, innocent, sensuous, marvellous and beautiful; they mirror both ourselves and possibly God himself. They reflect history through the image of the body.
Nudes are without doubt the most magnificent and controversial form of art today. But don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourself.
Paintings available from £400 to £6000.
The following artists will be taking part in the exhibition:
John Langton
This well known Yorkshire artist has a long standing relationship with the human form in art. Previous exhibitions have included dancers and landscapes. John has lived in Yorkshire for many years, although has had over 70 exhibitions in Germany.
Richard Keeton
Richard specialises in watercolour images that sooth and stimulate the mind and soul. His watercolour nudes are a visual feast for the heart and eyes.
Fiona McPherson
Fiona’s work concentrates on the strengths and fragilities brought to life through her use of charcoal and pastel with watercolour washes, which define the contours and shapely silhouette of the human form.
Kate McKrickard
Kate feels that painting the figure from life can inform all other areas of painting, whether abstraction or realism. The opportunity to take part in this exhibition was a welcome opportunity for her to return to small studies of the female figure, and look back to that tradition.
Joy Gregory
Joy is fascinated with colour and light, and her paintings reflect this with an emphasis on exploring the effects of strong light and unusual colours on her subjects. Her paintings of nudes often have an element of mystery to them, and include silhouettes with the curves edged in light.
Trevor Neal
Trevor attempts to contrast the well toned bodies of today with treatments on the substrates that imply an ageing contradicting the actual sitters form. He uses a wide variety of media and substrate combinations.
Emma Pritchard
Emma’s use of neutral palletes and contrasting light gives her shapes a vivid 3d effect which is almost sculptural in appearance. Subtle movement and gesture give these human forms a sense of strength and vigour, whilst they also remain still and contemplative.
