Since the chaotic days of the Gorbachev era, Russian Art has been gaining popularity in the West. There's evidence of ever growing international interest in the rich and varied talents of Russian and Soviet artists. And for the first time ever The Gascoigne gallery are exhibiting 8 of the finest landscape artists. Another exciting venture!!

Natalya Sultanova - Natalya Sultanova graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1998. Her vividly coloured landscapes are based on the outstandingly beautiful scenery of the Ural mountains of her childhood. Her use of bright colours reflects her work as a stained glass designer as well as her desire to create a fresh world of space and light.

Katya Gridneva - Katya's figurative work draws on her acute observation and understanding of the human form. All her work is done from life, capturing the special quality of light which gives them a rare spontaneity. Her knowledge of her models allows her to show them as real people, with their own thoughts and emotions.

Sasha Larionova - Sasha graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, St Petersburg in 1997. Her watercolours of villages show her mastery of geometry and colour, presenting the abstracted shapes and forms of buildings within the Russian landscape.

Fedor Gridnev - Fedor is the son of the artists Katya and Valery Gridnev. Still only 19 years old, he has won many prizes since the family settled in England five years ago. These include the Laing landscape competition, (under 25 year-old prize) and the Sunday Times water colour competition, (under 30 year-old prize).

Vasiliy Sayapin - Vasiliy was born in 1936 near Stalingrad but it was not until 1967 that he started as an art student. His initial work was in design of jewellery and stained glass but, since the early 1980's, he has concentrated on his paintings. His watercolours on specially prepared paper, capture the movement in the landscape.

Yuri Radomski - Yuri, who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, St Petersburg, in 1995, follows the classic tradition of Russian naturalistic landscape artists. Coming from a musical background, he sees his work in musical terms, finding his inspiration in the scenery of northern Russia.

Aurel Marinutza - Aurel was born in 1960 in Moldova. After military service he initially studied art in Odessa before becoming a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg from which he graduated in 1995. His paintings frequently capture the gentle dappled flow of light through leaves.

Anastasia Bazanova - Anastasia was born in 1978 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, St Petersburg. Her work is based on real places from which she abstracts the formal, monumental shapes that make her paintings so distinctive.
