One of the art industries most prolific printmakers, Picasso produced a substantial body of etchings, lithographs and linocuts, drypoints and woodcuts.
Picasso was born the son of an artist and drawing master and was absorbed in art from his childhood. His work is suffused with a passionate love of life, and no artist has more devastatingly exposed the cruelty and folly of his fellow men or more rapturously celebrated the physical pleasures of love.
In this exhibition, the gallery is concentrating on the two suites: –
Grâce et Mouvement, original copper engravings after a series of 14 drawings made by Picasso to accompany poems by Sappho and La Célestine, etchings based upon the work of Spanish writer Fernando de Rojas.
These limited edition fine art prints are proof of his demeaning attitude to women, characterising them as either “goddesses or doormats” and show a remarkable ability and power to impress his genius in even the smallest and slightest of his works.
